SACRAMENTO, CA (Oct. 3, 2016) – One of the world’s most iconic restaurant brands is coming to Sacramento.

Bennigan’s, the casual dining pioneer renowned for its chef-driven American fare and friendly Irish hospitality, is bringing its World Famous Monte Cristo and other signature favorites to the bustling downtown area early next year.

Maninder Trewn, President & CEO of Calben, Inc., purchased the rights to bring a Bennigan’s franchise to his hometown, along with his partners Ravinder Trewn and Khem Babbar. The company recently commenced remodeling work in the space formerly occupied by K Bar and Café Bernardos at the corner of 10th and K Street, in downtown Sacramento, near the new Golden 1 Center.

“Although there are other Irish concepts, the drive and determination in Bennigan’s CEO Paul Mangiamele had a lot to do with our decision,” said Trewn, an ex-Merchant Navy Officer and City of San Jose Section Manager with more than 25 years of restaurant industry experience. “Bennigan’s has a long and proud history and has made a remarkable turnaround under Paul’s leadership. I believe in the brand and the products they serve, and I love the casual, yet classy, look of their new restaurant prototype.”

The 7,500-square-foot restaurant is tentatively projected to open in January 2017, bringing 75 to 100 new jobs to the local economy. Sacramento’s new Bennigan’s will offer more than a dozen beers on tap, multiple HD TVs, two heated outdoor patios (one on K St. and the other on 10th) as well as ample space for events, meetings and private parties. In addition to the Monte Cristo, its menu will feature such signature Bennigan’s favorites as the Oh, Baby™ Back Ribs, Turkey O’Toole, Big Irish double-decker hamburger and a wide assortment of handcrafted specialty drinks.

“Our restaurants in Santa Clara and Fremont are flourishing – as they are from coast to coast and across the globe – so I couldn’t be more pleased to bring Bennigan’s outstanding food, drinks and Irish hospitality to the people of Sacramento,” said Mangiamele, who has led the renaissance of Bennigan’s since 2011. “Maninder is a wonderful guy and a very successful restaurateur, and I know he’s looking forward to showing this city just how special the casual dining experience can be!”

The restaurant is expected to attract steady business from the nearby State Capitol, Convention Center, Performing Arts Center, K Street Mall and Golden 1 Center, in addition to the adjacent hotels and neighborhoods.

“My partners and I are really excited to bring this Legendary brand to downtown Sacramento – the hub of the city,” said Trewn. “Our proximity to Golden 1 is a huge plus, so we’re really looking forward to serving up our Monte Cristos and other signature dishes to guests from near and far!”

Trewn also stated that if business is as strong as he expects, he plans to open additional Bennigan’s locations in the area in the years ahead.
